Dr. Duany's work reaches beyond her patients. Here's how she's being recognized in the Louisville community and beyond.
Dr. Duany was recently inducted into the Monroe County Sports Hall of Fame, an honor that celebrates her achievements as a former Division I athlete. During the ceremony, she shared a speech about her journey from athlete to orthopedic surgeon.


Dr. Duany immigrated to Bloomington, Indiana, from South Sudan as a young child after her family fled a war in their home country. She grew up playing basketball with her siblings, and she went on to earn a basketball scholarship at Bradley University in Illinois, where she played shooting guard.
Basketball nearly took her career in a different direction. She was invited to try out for the WNBA's Indiana Fever right around the time she got into medical school. She chose medicine.
A shoulder injury she experienced as a college athlete is actually what led her toward orthopedics. Getting to know her own orthopedic surgeon during her recovery sparked her interest in sports medicine.
